‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 3, episode 18 review: Fitz, Simmons’ big moment; Hive’s manipulation

FitzWe already knew that Hive on Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” had a knack for mind control, and having people unleash storms of physical fury. Take, for example, what we ended up seeing from a super-possessed Daisy Johnson on this past episode of the show.

On Tuesday night’s new episode of the drama, what we ended up seeing was Hive resort more to emotional manipulation to undermine and destroy parts of SHIELD, including the blossoming relationship between Fitz and Simmons. He brought back the memory of Will, which complicated Jemma’s head before she was able to snap out of it. Hive was shot multiple times, but given what we’ve seen from this guy in the past few weeks, he’ll emerge from that okay.

At least for the FitzSimmons ‘shippers, you can rejoice for a minute or two the fact that these two seem ready to finally admit there is something going on between the two of them. Granted, there’ll still be arguments, and we don’t think even them sleeping together will change the show much. It’s just a nice moment for us.

The show “proper” ended with this romantic moment, but this is “SHIELD.” You have to know that there’s still something after the “we’ll return in a moment.” Tonight, that was Hive announcing that he is going to try to recreate the Kree experiments done to him, which should help shape out some of the plans that he has had done to him? Sound chilling? It does to us, and it’s a nice way to wrap up the episode. Grade: B+.
