‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 episode 1 ratings: Strong, but how strong?

LogoThe season 6 premiere of “Game of Thrones” was of course something we were curious to learn about from a ratings points of view, especially when you consider the fact that in 2016, there are now such a multitude of different ways for people to watch the show. You’ve got HBO GO, HBO NOW, DVRs, On-Demand viewings, and of course repeat airings on the network and its sister stations.

Ultimately, we’re really only hitting the tip of the iceberg here when it comes to the 4.0 rating the show got in the 18-49 demographic last night. This is just a slight decline from the season 5 premiere, but then again, more people may be watching via other means now that are not so easily charted. HBO NOW launched on more platforms prior to the start of season 6, so many may have shifted over to that.

Then again, there’s another factor in the Free Preview Weekend that could have distorted things even further. It may be some time before we actually know just how many people watched this episode, but as soon as we find out, we’ll let you know here! This is certainly something that we find an interesting conversation topic when it comes to some of the strongest things airing on TV these days.

For those wondering, season 5 averaged a 3.5 rating in the demo, so there’s a good chance that the show can actually surpass it if it stays somewhere near this rating over the course of the rest of the spring / early summer.
