‘Call the Midwife’ season 5, episode 4 video (PBS): Trixie, Tom, Barbara, and the future

There’s another new episode of “Call the Midwife” coming on PBS on Sunday, and the story will not waste much time picking up where we left off in some ways, especially when it comes to what is going on with Barbara, Tom, and Trixie. Where the story left off here is that Barbara started seeing Trixie’s ex, but had reservations of course regarding the past that he shared with her friend. Well, the cat is already out of the bag, and in this episode Barbara has to find a way to navigate this while keeping her friendship. It’s about assessing priorities and being courteous, which are things that she does know a great deal about.

Both the promo and the synopsis below for Sunday night’s new episode should serve as an even greater resource in setting up what’s next:

“Sister Julienne is impressed by the medical advances that are saving the lives of mothers and babies. But a traumatic birth raises moral questions for her which she struggles to answer. Trixie and Tom help the family, who begin to break apart under the pressure of this unplanned pregnancy.”

Here are a few other quick teasers for this episode:

1. Several friendships are tested over the course of this hour, and the same goes for a few medical practices.

2. There is a certain element of mystery to this story at times, at least in comparison to the first few episodes of season 5.

3. While there are always strong standalone plots on “Call the Midwife,” this weekend’s new episode in particular is going to carry with it several setups that, at least thematically, will play out over time.
