Crime TV Heroes: Talking ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 7 and Jane Rizzoli possibilities

What makes Jane Rizzoli of “Rizzoli & Isles” such a popular character? There are a number of different reasons, and that’s a worthy subject for our latest edition of our Crime TV Heroes. Over the past six years, she’s been one of our favorite characters to watch on any show in the genre, and she and the other characters are getting a proper chance to say goodbye this summer when the show returns to TNT.

While you continue to wait for that moment to arrive, hopefully this article will help you to remember why this character is so appreciated and loved by many fans in the first place!

Why she’s a hero – The biggest reason of course is just the job itself: She takes down bad guys for a living. Yet, at times you can argue that she goes far beyond the call of duty, working crazy-long hours, putting herself at risk, and also thinking of others often before herself. She makes sure that she is a well-functioning part of a team, and she knows when to take the lead. She’s the sort of character who can be inspirational to some people watching the show, but she’s also flawed and relatable in other ways. She’s not some invincible cop who will never be hurt or frayed in any way.

What she can learn – Sometimes, she does need to realize that it is okay for other people to take the fall, and put themselves in the line of duty. She’s selfless to a fault, and at times even committing to her job to the point where she puts herself (and in one case, her unborn child) in danger. She can still be the amazing crime-solver that she is while still taking a step back from time to time; maybe years on the force will have earned her that wisdom in the final season.

What we’d like to see for her – Obviously, the whole stalker story has to end at some point, and there are already some indications that this will conclude during the early portion of season 7. From there, it’s all about setting up Rizzoli’s endgame. Or feeling there is just “don’t force it.” For example, don’t force a love interest story if it doesn’t feel right, or don’t have her chance careers or move unless there’s a good reason. Let things flow naturally, since we think there would be plenty of people satisfied with an ending that is just Jane and Maura continuing to work together and take down bad guys.
