‘Secrets and Lies’ season 2 premiere on hold; when could ABC launch it?

Secrets and LiesBy the time the second season of “Secrets and Lies” premieres on ABC, is anyone even going to remember what happened? Maybe there is a part of us purposely being cynical about the way in which we are posting this, but there is also a little bit of substance to the question.

Today, the network announced their full list of premiere dates for the summer, and surprisingly the Juliette Lewis series was not included among them. Originally, this was going to bean entry in the 2015-16 schedule, and was going to function as a midseason replacement somewhere. However, that failed to come to fruition, and per Deadline, it may be held now until the fall.

Probably the biggest reason we’re surprised over this is that the first season proved itself to be a modest hit for the network, and you think that they would want to get more out there to test the series’ longevity. Season 1 actually drew better ratings as it progressed, and ended up averaging a 1.5 in the 18-49 demographic over the course of the year. By comparison, this is a better average rating than such shows this season as “Once Upon a Time,” “Castle,” “Agents of SHIELD,” “Quantico,” “Nashville,” and “The Catch.” Even if it were to drop the standard 10% that shows tend to from one season to the next, it’d still draw better ratings than all of these shows other than “Once Upon a Time.”

Hopefully, “Secrets and Lies” is only being saved because the network thinks that they can get something better out of it in the fall than the often-inconsistent summer.
