When could an ‘American Idol’ season 16 happen … if ever?
Today may feel a little weird to many TV fans out there, and understandably so. After all, this is the first time in well over a decade that we’re sitting around in April without a new episode of “American Idol” to talk about. The celebrated Fox series ended last week, and with that we’re going to have to now wait and see if anything ever comes of the show again.
When the series finale aired last week on Fox, there are two words that may have stuck with you: “For now.” There has always been a sentiment from those close to the show that it would be reborn someday, whether it be on Fox or some other venue. We definitely do share that vision.
With that, we don’t think you should spend much time holding your breath for a season 16 to come on the air. The first thing that needs to happen is for there to be time for singing shows to become more of a rarity, so it may not be until the end of “The Voice” down the road. Then, there’s the question as to if it would air on Fox or on another venue. We almost feel like at this point the show would be better served as some sort of internet show, where viewers from all over the world could watch with customized advertisements and vote for their favorites at their own time. Turn it into more of a global event, and cater it more towards present day trends with more creativity.
For the time being, though, we don’t see it back for at least a few years. Don’t let go if hope if you loved the show; we know that we will certainly miss it over the coming weeks without having it on the air.
