Chelsea Handler’s Netflix talk show receives a title, premiere date

Netflix -It’s been quite some time now since it was first revealed that Chelsea Handler was going to be heading to Netflix to produce a wide array of content. We’ve already seen her take on a variety of subjects in her “Chelsea Does…” documentary series, and we’re finally now getting some of the first news regarding her late-night talk show.

The comedian has already announced that her show will launch on Wednesday, May 11, and it will consist of 30-minute installments released weekly. This format to us is somewhat reminiscent of “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” which concentrates episodes rather than going for several of them a week. We wonder if Handler will try to make her episodes similarly evergreen; while Oliver does have some shows that are relatively connected to a particular zeitgeist, you could watch his piece of stadium relocation or U.S. territories months or even years after they first aired and they would still make sense.

As for the name, it is going to be simply “Chelsea.” We have zero issue with that. Nobody really cares what the name is for a talk show; they just want it to be funny. Handler has the talent to make that happen, and what excites us about this gig is that she really seemed to cherrypick exactly what it was that she wanted for her next job in TV. She didn’t rush this, so we anticipate that we’ll get a sense of some of her passion during these episodes.

The downside here is that we are going to be waiting for a little while longer to see this show come on the air…
