‘The Bachelor: After the Final Rose’: Will Ben Higgins, Lauren Bushnell get married live?

Ben -

Throughout the big finale of “The Bachelor” Monday night, show host Chris Harrison certainly uttered a rather-interesting tease: It was possible that Ben Higgins could actually marry the woman he loved on LIVE TV right after the two-hour finale aired.

Did this seem like we were talking about “The Bachelor” or “UnREAL,” the send-up that was airing on Lifetime? At times, we found ourselves wondering that because the whole idea of this was just crazy. Why would he marry someone he hasn’t even had a chance to spend time with publicly until now? We just wondered if this was just a way to build unnecessary hype towards something that was going to happen anyway.

Ben proposed to Lauren Bushnell in the first part of the finale, and she became the potential bride all of a sudden … or at least until later in the show when she said that she wasn’t set to get married just yet. So in other words, all of that hype with the minister was simply that: Hype. Yes, ABC really wanted to have that moment live on TV, so they did what they could to push Ben and Lauren to do it live.

In the end, hats off to Ben for saying no to the whole charade and getting to do things on his own terms. He did, however, given Lauren another proposal in front of everyone, and without some of the drama that came with having to break JoJo’s heart at the same time. This was a sweet move, and we wish that it made up for the relentless hyperbole and hype that this show gave us throughout. However, the truth here is that if the show teases something without telling you outright that it is happening, it’s actually not happening and this is therefore a trick. Keep this in mind while watching future seasons.
