‘Downton Abbey’ season 6, episode 9 (series finale): Show exec on big Michelle Dockery story

On the end of this past episode of “Downton Abbey,” you had the character of Lady Mary get the chance to have what was at least the beginnings of her happy ending as she and Henry Talbot finally got to tie the knot. She overcame her personal insecurities, and decided that there would be something great for her in being with this man.

So are there some other beautiful moments coming for some other people in the cast? We really hope so, especially for Edith … and Mary has a lot to make up for when it comes to the terrible way in which she acted on this past episode towards her. She blew up her relationship with Bertie thanks to revealing the truth about Marigold, and in teasing what is next for these two sisters, executive producer Gareth Neame had the following to say to Entertainment Weekly:

“We knew that people would hate [Mary] for that moment … Having brought her to this real low point, she can then swing back. We had the huge fight between them, which has been brewing for a year, but then you have the lovely little personal moment between them when it’s Mary’s wedding. Of course, for this finale episode, you have Mary actually try to go out and make her sister’s life work and make her happy.”

We hesitate to give everything away for this episode, but let’s just say that when it comes to the Mary – Edith relationship, you can at least expect some sort of closure. From there, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
