‘Downton Abbey’ series finale preview (PBS): Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, cast say goodbye

Next week on PBS, be prepared to settle in for an emotional conclusion to “Downton Abbey” like no other. The British import will be closing its doors for good (unless there’s a movie or something down the road) with a two-hour series finale, one that will tie up many of the stories that you’ve come to know very well over the years.

What can you expect? We don’t want to give anything major away, but we’d say that the following actors have some enormous moments: Laura Carmichael (Edith), Joanne Froggatt (Anna), Jim Carter (Carson), Michelle Dockery (Mary), Hugh Bonneville (Robert), and Rob James-Collier (Thomas). This is only a handful of the cast, and even if we don’t mention your favorite, rest assured that they could still very much have a huge role in the story. This is a long episode, and there are many story threads that need to be resolved.

We know that one in particular people will be excited to see more about is the continuation of what happened tonight with Lady Edith, given that tonight’s installment found her entirely heartbroken thanks to Mary telling Bertie the truth about Marigold. While we are not going to give everything away when it comes to this particular storyline right now, rest assured that there will be some sort of closure.

Will you cry at times in watching it? Probably, as there are a few moments that can be at best described as “bittersweet.” With this said, there will also be a few moments here and there that should make you crack some sort of smile.
