‘Top Chef: California’ episode 11 preview: MC Hammer greets the chefs in Oakland

Top Chef -

We love the random assortment of celebrity judges who do tend to stop by “Top Chef” here and there. Sure, many of them are not the most knowledgeable about food, but at the same time that gives the series a freshness. They do at least know what tastes good and what doesn’t, and they are more in step with the people they cook for on a regular basis.

After all, it is so easy to forget with this show that in real life, these people actually cook for patrons who are not judges!

The sneak peek below for Thursday night’s new episode is not exactly the most substantial beyond just learning that MC Hammer is the guest judge in his home city of Oakland. A few people, in particular Isaac and Carl, seem thrilled to be cooking for him, while everyone is impressed. We know that there are always celebrities that people are in awe to cook for, but we feel like there’s something different here given that there is such a sense of nostalgia that comes with him. He was at his peak at a time when most of us were growing up. We now that sense our own initials are “MC,” we used to talk about MC Hammer all of the time.

So who’s in need of a culinary comeback during this episode? At the moment, we’re focusing the majority of our attention over on people like Kwame and Jeremy, who have both had some great moments this season. However, Kwame’s been in a little bit of a rut as of late, and Jeremy has to recover from a pretty poor Restaurant Wars performance despite being so successful in the early going.
