‘Saturday Night Live’ ratings: Melissa McCarthy, Kanye West show continues upward trend

SNL -While this weekend’s edition of “Saturday Night Live” with Melissa McCarthy and Kanye West may have been good rather than great, that did not stop them from being some pretty good numbers for the show once more.

Overall, this weekend’s edition ended up drawing a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is a figure that NBC has to be feeling thrilled with. It’s better than the majority of their primetime shows at the moment, and that’s even including some of their bigger hits like the entire Dick Wolf franchise. Some of this we attribute to McCarthy as a draw, and the rest we give to strong showings on the show as of late, us being in the middle of a Presidential election (everyone loves political spoofs), and also having curiosity out there surrounding Kanye’s performances as a musical guest.

Will the show be able to match this number with Jonah Hill and Future when the series returns on March 5? It’s hard to really imagine the same sort of performance when you stop to think about it. We know that Hill has hosted the show many times before, but we’re not really sure that he has the same exact mainstream appeal in 2016.

Now, our final question: When are we going to get more of Dwayne Johnson? After his brilliant showing last year, we do think that this is something that absolutely needs to happen beyond the shadow of a doubt. Luckily, there are still many shows left this season, and maybe he is being saved more for the finale.
