‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12, episode 9 preview: It goes beyond Meredith

We’re now just one day away from the midseason premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy,” and based on almost every indication that we’re getting at the moment about this episode, we’re sure that this is going to be a big one. Meredith Grey is going to be attacked by a patient, and it is up to some of the other doctors to protect and save her.

While there may be moments during this episode in which you wonder whether or not not this is a one-and-done story for Ellen Pompeo’s character, we’re certainly hearing otherwise. This will haunt her for some time, and as Caterina Scorsone teases to TV Guide, this also is going to reverberate through everyone else at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital:

“Meredith is the person who gets attacked, but it does impact everyone quite profoundly because she’s such a central person in the constellation of relationships at the hospital.”

Things between Scorsone’s Amelia and Meredith are not altogether great, and maybe this incident will force them to put stock in their own relationship. Also, Amelia is connected to Owen, who is someone Meredith also cares about because of his history with Cristina. Her other sister Maggie also works there, and her good friend Alex is potentially getting engaged to Jo. There are a lot of relationships here in which Meredith is connected to, and the good news as a result of that is that she’ll have a lot of people who want to care for her.

Granted, there are then also people like Penny, who may be desperate to prove something to her.
