2016 Super Bowl Commercials: Bud Light sends Seth Rogen, Amy Schumer on campaign trail

Bud Light -Celebrities sell, and do you know what else does on Super Bowl Sunday every single year? Beer. Therefore, you cannot even remotely act surprised that Bud Light is deciding to take on both of these fronts for their Super Bowl 50 commercial featuring Seth Rogen and Amy Schumer. Both are huge comedy stars right now, and their ad seems to be spoofing the election cycle and some of the candidates who are out there already.

While this is a strong creative, does it make this a strong ad? That’s what we are going to be getting more into now.

The premise – This ad is told in the style of a mock commercial, where we get a chance to see Amy and Seth speak out about some of what they love about this country, and about this beer. They make their case for Bud Light as everyone’s drink of choice.

What works – Great use of Amy and Seth as the stars of the commercial, and to go along with that we have a nice cameo from Paul Rudd in here, as well! Also, great use of the Bud Light brand throughout. You’re never confused as to what the commercial is for.

What doesn’t – Surprisingly, it’s just not particularly funny. We thought for sure that this would be an ad that goes for laughs given the two people who are at the front of it, but they’re not really given anything to do. It’s like Bud Light just chose two popular people with zero regard for their talent.

Grade – C-. While effective in terms of branding, this has to be the biggest waste of talent we have during the big game this year.
