‘The Flash’ season 2 spoilers: Don’t expect Wally West to become Kid Flash anytime soon

FlashWe’ve learned a few things about Wally West in the short amount of time that he has been on “The Flash,” with one of the primary ones being that this is a guy who really likes speed. He’s enthusiastic about it, and in some ways it connects him to his mother and some of the journeys that they had together.

Given Wally’s status as the DC Comics hero Kid Flash and some of the obvious Easter eggs on the show, it feels easy to assume that him getting powers someday is a storyline that the writers plan to explore. With that being said, it’s also far from assured that this is something happening in the immediate future. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg is coy on whether or not we are going to see Kid Flash pop up:

“I wouldn’t want to say no, but so much of that stuff is a little bit further into the future than we’ve planned for right now.”

We’re sure that the idea of Wally getting powers has probably been brought up at some point in the writers room, but another thing to consider here at the moment is this: There are already a ton of Speedsters on the show in between Zoom, the Reverse-Flash, and The Flash himself. More could be coming courtesy of Trajectory, and we also have a potential one in Harrison Wells’ daughter Jesse. That’s a lot of people that need to be attended to! If everyone on the show suddenly gets the ability to start running around super-fast, it would not be long before having the speed force would feel redundant and unimpressive.
