Ratings: ‘Sleepy Hollow’ season 3 rises in new spot; ‘Grimm’ recovers; ‘The Vampire Diaries’ drops

Fridays are starting to become the go-to spot for genre programming on network, given that you’ve got everything from “Sleepy Hollow” to “Second Chance” to the Julie Plec vampire universe on The CW. We had some concerns that there would be some ratings declines because of the competition, but for the time being we’d at least argue that nobody is being completely obliterated. We’ll see if that holds true next week when “The Amazing Race” premieres and the rest of the CBS lineup comes back.

The winners – Overall, “Sleepy Hollow” (0.9 in the 18-49 demographic) certainly fared better than we imagined it would given its move from a Thursday to a Friday. Then again, this is still worse than “MasterChef Junior” was doing in this spot, and we have to think that this show was far cheaper to make than a supernatural / historical drama featuring a wide array of monsters.

Speaking of monsters, “Grimm” (0.9) is the only other notable show to see an increase as opposed to the week before.

The losers – Thursday was a pretty poor night for “The Vampire Diaries,” which has now hit a new series low with a 0.4. Meanwhile, the terribly-named “Second Chance” fell even further to a 0.6, and even “Shark Tank” dropped to 1.4. This show is still the cream of the Friday crop, but it is in no way as dominant as it was a couple of years ago, when it was consistently winning week in and week out.

In the end, there were no big swings on the schedule that cause us to think that something previously in danger is now safe, or to make us believe that a once-safe show is now in jeopardy. Those feelings should start to make themselves apparent come March or early April.
