‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 9, episode 14 review: Sheldon’s Meemaw drops an engagement ring surprise

Big Bang Theory -Who knew that an episode of “The Big Bang Theory” revolving around June Squibb as Sheldon’s Meemaw would end up leading to such an enormous surprise?

Ultimately, what we learned in the early going here is that Meemaw was not exactly a fan of Amy. She still wants to control Sheldon, and that includes wanting to make sure that he is with a person that will be subservient and follow exactly what she wants. When Amy proved to be independent, she shut her down and told Sheldon not to give her the engagement ring … something that she did not know about before now.

Eventually, these two characters did eventually forge a little bit of common ground, and maybe there’s some hope for a future here. As for whether or not Sheldon’s getting down on one knee, don’t count on that for a while. There is quite a bit of work still to be done to get the Sheldon – Amy relationship back to where it was.

The other story for this episode was also significant in a huge way … but for Raj. He realized that he developed a “vibe” with someone in Claire who he met at the comic-book store, and with that came a lengthy debate on whether or not he should be with her. The reality here is that it doesn’t seem as though Emily is the one, and sooner or later, that is going to come to a head.

Sure, we do wonder why Amy wants to be with Sheldon after he treated her not-so-great in this episode, but that’s the general sentiment of this show. There were still laughs, and the writers did a very good job at getting Raj’s insecurity correct. Grade: B-.
