‘The Amazing Race 28’ spotlight: Will Blair Fowler, father Scott be contenders?
“The Amazing Race” this season has a variety of notable internet stars taking part, but just in terms of total reach, Blair Fowler has a particularly broad audience. She’s a YouTube makeup guru, and for the race her father Scott, who has his own interests and story to tell about providing healthcare, is also going to be taking part.
While we’re sure that these two are going to have plenty of fans, does that mean that they are viable contenders to actually go far and win this season? In the latest edition of our show spotlight series, we’re going to do our best to figure that out.
Relationship – Father / daughter.
Claim to fame – As mentioned, Blair runs a YouTube style / makeup channel has more than 3 million followers across all of her channels. Even in the video below, she describes some of the simple makeup products that she brought on the race with her. Scott, meanwhile, describes himself in his bio as the “President and CEO of a large multi-specialty medical group (Holston Medical Group, PC).”
Strengths – They’ve done some traveling together, and there will be familiarity that comes with being in unusual places. They have a longer history together and a deeper bond just by the nature of their relationship than many of the other teams, so they should know each other really well and that should help to avoid conflict. Scott may bring a great deal of insight as one of the older racers this season, while we imagine that Blair at least knows some of the other racers already and can use those relationships to her advantage.
Weaknesses – Neither racer strikes us a physical beast, and with that they’re going to have to rely on making smart decisions more than having to clean up some of their own mistakes. Strength tasks will not be their forte, and they’ll have to make sure to continue to listen to each other every step of the way to avoid trouble. Sometimes in the past father / daughter teams have struggled with the father wanting to take control, even when the daughter is right.
Prediction – While we think it’s going to be tough for Blair & Scott to win the race from an athletic point of view, we do think of them as darkhorse contenders. They are both very smart, and we think that the other teams will like them and be willing to help them. (The same goes vice-versa.) They won’t make silly mistakes, and that goes a long way on this show.
