‘Call the Midwife’ season 5, episode 3 preview: Sister Winifred faces a challenge

Call the Midwife -

There is a new episode of “Call the Midwife” coming to the BBC on Sunday night, and it really should not be much of a surprise at all to learn that there is a character on the show facing a moral dilemma. After all, doesn’t this happen almost every week?

For Sister Winifred, the dilemma is simply setting aside her beliefs about elicit affairs in order to help a woman in need. In the sneak peek below, you can see her attending to Dorothy, a teacher who is expecting a child. The twist here is that the baby’s father is married to someone else. This is obviously something that is frowned-upon and controversial today, so you have to imagine what it must have been like in this era of the show, especially when so many of the midwives have such faith-based, conservative leanings.

Yet, despite whatever many of the sisters may think of Dorothy and the husband’s actions, they are still meant to care for people in need. With that in mind, we’d be ultimately surprised if they did anything other than the right thing. These people are certainly flawed, but they do have a good moral understanding of right and wrong when the dust settles.

We’ll be back on Sunday night to discuss this episode further. That will include not only a full review of the installment, but also a preview discussing more of what could be coming up down the road in season 5. Stay tuned!
