‘Community’ season 6 DVD certainly hints at journey’s end

Is there still hope for six seasons and a movie? Maybe someday, but the just-released cover for the sixth season of “Community” certainly makes it look as though there is not a whole lot of life left in the show.

Specifically, the word “sixth” is crossed out about the show logo, and it its place “final” is written in with a question mark. Certainly, this is a clear sign that everyone is moving on with their careers, and we have seen evidence of that. Ken Jeong now has “Dr. Ken,” while Gillian Jacobs has “Love” over on Netflix. Yvette Nicole Brown has “The Odd Couple,” which should be premiering at some point this year with season 2. Donald Glover didn’t even appear in the sixth season, and he has a new comedy on FX coming up in “Atlanta.” Joel McHale was recently on “The X-Files” and his talk show “The Soup” is over.

Maybe this is a fault of ours, but we just noticed that one of the boxes on this car is marked “The Cape.”

The future of “Community” on TV certainly looks dim, given that its ratings were not strong enough for NBC and Yahoo! Screen shut down recently after losing money through many of their ventures. We’d say that there is still hope for a feature, but it may be a year or two down the road when the cast has had some time to breathe. Also, we’d love to see it back with Brown and Glover around in some capacity, since the second season of the show in particular was magic.
