‘The Flash’ season 2: Shantel VanSanten reacts to Patty Spivot departure

Suits -At the end of “The Flash” Tuesday night, there was some news that many out there likely saw coming: The end of Patty Spivot’s time in Central City. She was not killed off (which is good for the prospects of her returning someday), but she did leave to receive proper training to become a CSI.

The reason why Patty’s exit was in some ways inevitable (at least temporarily) is because of the fact that Barry Allen and Iris West have this destiny that he has seen in the future, and we don’t think that ever left his brain. Therefore, he probably was not able to commit to her in nearly the same sort of capacity that she could him, and the whole alter-ego excuse was merely that. He didn’t want to stare reality in the face.

Still, we do hope that we see Patty again someday; she doesn’t have to be anyone’s love interest, but she is a good cop and a source of positive energy. If nothing else, maybe you catch on her in a few years and see that she has found happiness somewhere else.

In a post on Instagram, here is what Shantel VanSanten had to say about her exit from the series:

“The beginning and end of a characters story is never in my hands, I can only care for their journey along the way. I am so sad to see Patty leave @cwtheflash but I am beyond grateful for the experience. As a comic book fan I was geeking out over the opportunity to play a character in this world! I loved working with the cast and crew and getting to breathe life into such a fun character! Thanks to for your support and love! I’m going to miss my metahuman hunting in Central City!!”
