‘Saturday Night Live’ ratings: Ronda Rousey – Selena Gomez show generates strong numbers

SNL -While we knew that “Saturday Night Live” was not going to be able to match the ratings of the Adam Driver show from last week this time around (no NFL lead-in), they did have the benefit of two other things: A popular athlete in Ronda Rousey hosting the show, and also the fact that much of the East Coast was snowed in and had nothing better to do other than watch.

This weekend’s new episode drew in total a 2.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is one of the best ratings that the show has had all season other than the Driver gig. If “SNL” drew these numbers week in and week out, we have almost zero doubt that it would be anything other than a smash hit. Unfortunately, we firmly believe that the odds of this holding some of these ratings in the long-term are slim to none. It’s just hard to imagine it having the firepower behind it to make it happen without another big-name guest.

If nothing else, though, at least the upcoming February 6 show will have another huge name at the center of it in Larry David. The former “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star has already appeared twice this season, and you know that he will be busting out his famed Bernie Sanders impression at least one more time with us getting close the primaries. Also, he’ll be getting a chance to do some other stuff, as well. He has a ton of writing experience, and also has been doing a lot of live theater as of late. In other words, there are few people who are more perfectly suited to host the show than him.

Unfortunately, we’re just going to have to get through a repeat to make it to the other side with him hosting.
