‘American Horror Story’ season 6 will be set in two different time periods

American Horror Story -

There is a bit of a tradition at this point for “American Horror Story” to be set in the present during the odd-numbered seasons, but then to jump back into the past for the even ones. For example, the second season was primarily set during the 1960’s, while the early part of “Freak Show” was in the prior decade.

So what about season 6? It could be some time for all of the details to become clear there, but FX revealed at the TCA Winter Press Tour on Saturday that there would be two time periods rather than one. You can primarily expect the show to take place in the present, but there will be flashbacks that show you some other sides to the story. Having two separate narratives will be a challenge for the series, and we’re not sure we like it given that “Hotel” was much too complicated for its own good.

Of course, it is still going to take a long time for us to figure out one way or another everyone who is going to return to the show. Creator Ryan Murphy has already invited back Lady Gaga, and we’re sure that the usual cast (Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Denis O’Hare, and Kathy Bates) will all have roles waiting for them if they want one.

What about Jessica Lange? We feel like she could come back in a minute if she wants to, but it’s unclear if that is really much of a priority for her at this point.
