‘Saturday Night Live’ re-watch: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler still shine in ‘Meet Your Second Wife’

This weekend is the final one this month before new episodes of “Saturday Night Live” air on NBC, and with that, the show is diving back into their Christmas episode featuring none other than Tina Fey and Amy Poehler serving as the hosts with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band as the musical guest.

We’ll be honest here in saying that the first time around, we found the show a little bit of a letdown. We thought that with Tina and Amy coming back, we were going to have more cameos and more hilarious sketches. It was actually probably a better show on the re-watch, mostly because of the fact that we had a much better perspective on it. Compared to other shows this season, this one is still very solid!

The sketch that shines the most in this episode still remains “Meet Your Second Wife,” a completely ridiculous spectacle that serves as an opportunity for Tina and Amy to have a little fun as game-show hosts. We won’t spoil this sketch too much in the event you haven’t seen it yet, but it just does so much right from start to finish. There are so many delightful surprises in here, and while we know they’re coming now, Aidy Bryant and Kenan Thompson both particularly do a great job delivering the lines.

“Meet Your Second Wife” is ultimately a great example that “SNL” does not always need to do super-complicated sketches. If you’ve got the right host and the right idea, even a simple game show can lead to greatness.
