TV Quick Hits: Alexander Skarsgard back on HBO; ‘The Royals’ renewed; ‘Voltron’ revived

HBOAlexander Skarsgard returns to HBO – One year removed from his run on “True Blood,” it looks as though Skarsgard is interested in getting back into business with the network.

The actor is reportedly going to be joining “Big Little Lies,” the upcoming eight-episode limited series from David E. Kelley that already has Nicole Kidman on board. The cast also includes Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley as the other leads. The series revolves around three mothers of kindergarten children who see their lives turned all around. Skarsgard will specifically the husband of Kidman’s character. It is an interesting idea and Kelley has talent; he certainly has some big stars aboard the show.

“The Royals” is coming back – For all of those who love “The Royals,” rejoice! E! has renewed their scripted series, whose name is pretty self-explanatory, for a ten-episode third season. We love that this show is proving that scripted content can succeed on the cable network; hopefully it will convince them to create more.

Netflix is bringing back Voltron – DreamWorks Animation is going to be teaming up with Netflix on a number of upcoming projects, and based on what we are hearing right now, one of them just so happens to be an adaptation of the popular 1980’s classic. While we still are unclear as to whether or not this is something that will appeal to young viewers, there is no doubt that the older crowd will love it. This also fits in perfectly with the company’s recent revivals of other properties including “Full House” and “Arrested Development.”

Unfortunately, you’re still going to have to wait a while to see what they do with it.
