Rose Parade 2016: Networks shy away from Donald Trump skywriting protest

There was some breaking news that came out of the 2016 Rose Parade on New Year’s Day, but this was a twist that the event’s broadcast partners chose to not really address during the show itself.

As a matter of fact, we were not even made aware of a certain message in the sky until after the show. As you can see in the Twitter image HERE via Bryce Miller, someone took it upon themselves to turn the parade into a chance to preach a political message. In full, it read “America is great! Trump is disgusting!,” which is in turn a clear statement on the 2016 Presidential race.

So was it the right move to ignore the message? From the vantage point of remaining unbiased, we certainly understand why they chose to handle it in the way that they did. This is a family show, something designed to be a happy New Year’s tradition. There are many who want to stay away from politics as much as they can between now and when they actually have to vote. We understand why they would not want to deal with this at this particular moment in time. They’ll be plenty of other opportunities to discuss Donald Trump and politics as we move a little bit further into the year. Heck, it will not be too long before we get around to another televised debate.

Now, we just have to wait and see if anyone tries to make a spectacle in some other way our of today’s college football lineup.
