‘New Year’s Eve’ 2016: Jessie J performs ‘Imagine’ live

There are many traditions that take place during New Year’s Eve, but few of them are consistent so far as music goes.

One of the biggest ones, though, is a performance of the classic John Lennon song “Imagine.” Every year it is performed by a different artist, and this time around it is none other than pop superstar Jessie J, who always sings live and always tries to deliver a great show. Given that she has one of the best voices out of anyone in the industry right now, we are not even remotely surprised that she killed this.

The thing that did surprise us about this is that for whatever reason, ABC decided that they had better things to do rather than air the song. They cut to commercial before it happened, and then when they returned, the song was in the background. “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” let us down in the department, but the performance aired on CNN and the official live stream. Hopefully the majority of you had a chance to catch this, since it is a song that really is perfect for the times right now in imagining a world without conflict and violence.

With this performance in mind, let’s wish everyone out there a wonderful start to 2016! We’ve had a thrill covering the CNN show in particular this year, and we hope to be back once again to cover it in the future … but we’ll have a lot of great things to discuss in the meantime.
