CarterMatt Awards 2015 results: Did ‘Game of Thrones’ or ‘The Walking Dead’ have Most Surprising Moment?

Surprising -Today is the big conclusion for our 2015 CarterMatt Awards, and we’re closing things off with a pair of awards celebrating overall series and their specific accomplishments. For this article, we’re beginning with a discussion of Most Surprising Moment. This was a year of many shockers, character deaths, fake-deaths, weddings, breakups, cast shake-ups, and many more things that had Twitter going into overdrive. Therefore, we could have envisioned several different moments being at the top of any one person’s list.

For the sake of this particular category in the awards, though, we cannot really say that the winner is a surprise. There are spoilers for several shows ahead, so be warned!

Game of Thrones” wins Most Surprising Moment for the shocking death (?) of Jon Snow.

We suppose that the only thing that you can say is somewhat surprising about the win in itself is that book readers knew that this moment for Kit Harington’s character was coming; however, we do give them credit for not being terrible and ruining it for show viewers. While we’d see Ned and Robb Stark both killed in horrific fashion on the show in the past, we do still think that there was a sentiment among many TV fans that they wouldn’t do something like this again. Maybe these people are still right, given that there is always a chance that the character is revived in some way. With Melisandre on this series, we’re not ruling that out.

For those curious, “The Walking Dead” came in second place with Glenn’s near-death being something that shocked a whole lot of people. (For us, the big surprise was the terrible way in which the show handled the whole situation.)
