‘Saturday Night Live’ ratings: Tina Fey – Amy Poehler show almost ties Donald Trump

SNL -It was pretty easy to predict big numbers for “Saturday Night Live” this weekend featuring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, if for no other reason than that these are two of the most-famous alumni in the history of the franchise. Everyone wants to see them back and doing their thing on the show, even if it is just for a short period of time.

Therefore, you cannot really be that surprised now that we’ve seen the series draw some of its best numbers since we had the rather controversial episode with Donald Trump earlier this year. With a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, the NBC show was easily #1 for the night, and it also lags only behind “The Voice” as the top-rated show on NBC for the week.

Did viewers get what they wanted from the episode? We’d say that for the most part, the episode did its job of providing some laughs. Beyond Maya Rudolph we’re not sure that there were any big surprises, though, and the sketch of the night (see it here) may have been an uncomfortable game show entitled “Meet Your Second Wife.” We probably expected the episode to blow us away a little more than it did, but that is what happens sometimes when you come into an episode with expectations through the roof.

“SNL” will return with all-new episodes starting on January 16, and they have a more-than-capable host in Adam Driver ready to go. Driver is coming aboard after playing Kylo Ren in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which easily broke the record for top opening weekend of all time at the American box office this weekend.

We’ll have more news on “SNL” over the course of the hiatus, but for now head over to this link to gather up some further TV news on everything we cover, sent right over to you via our official CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: NBC.)
