Caitlyn Jenner named Barbara Walters’ Most Fascinating Person of 2015

It could happen -

You may have seen this one coming, and it is now cemented as fact: Caitlyn Jenner is Barbara Walters‘ Most Fascinating Person of 2015.

This news was confirmed during the yearly special on ABC Thursday night, as the former Olympian landed at the top of the list over many other familiar names: Jeff Bezos, Donald Trump, Bradley Cooper, Amy Schumer, Tracy Morgan, Misty Copeland, Bernie Sanders, Donna Karan, and Ronda Rousey. Of this group, only a select few are not a part of celebrity culture; namely, we’re looking at people like Bezos and Copeland. Even Rousey is looking more and more towards film roles.

We certainly don’t think that this is any argument surrounding Jenner’s inclusion on the list, given that her story is truly fascinating and her impact on pop-culture is inevitable. The only thing we’re surprised about is given all of her accolades already this year, including a lengthy ABC special with Diane Sawyer before she announced Caitlyn as her new name, the show didn’t go in a more distinctive direction, similar to what Time Magazine did by naming Angela Merkel their Person of the Year. In turn, this allowed viewers to learn about someone who they may not be exposed to on a daily basis, someone who is still doing extremely fascinating things in her own right.

The thing that we will say in defense of Walters’ largely pop-culture heavy list is that everyone would make their own list based on political preference, celebrities they liked, and the people who made an impact on them. Every list will be different.
