NBC’s ‘The Voice’ spoilers: What Jeffery Austin, Jordan Smith, Amy Vachal, top 9 will perform

VoiceWe’ve had a chance now to comb through all of the different song choices for Monday night’s new episode of “The Voice,” and we’ve got to say that there are some really odd choices in the mix. Given that these are the songs needed to get people through to the finale, are you really going to hit us over the head so much with slow, dreary songs? We almost hope that the artists / coaches who aren’t going for the obvious pandering are the ones who advance.

Before we share the song choice, just a quick reminder that you can also see our contestant rankings for the week by heading over to the link here now!

Amy Vachal, “To Make You Feel My Love” – It’s a little overdone, but a sweet song nonetheless. She doesn’t really need to do much other than be vulnerable and keep it simple to get votes.

Shelby Brown, “Even God Must Get the Blues” – Hey, she’s a country singer. We’re not going to complain about it being an obvious choice, given that this is what her audience would want to buy on iTunes.

Jordan Smith, “Somebody to Love” – It’s strange to say that this may be the closest thing to a fast song we’ve seen him do, and it’s really not fast. Like the choice. It’s a little bold!

Zach Seabaugh, “The Climb” – Ugh. Super-generic song  that will expose Zach’s weaknesses, and feels like an attempt to get young, female voters with his charm. No thanks.

Barrett Baber, “Ghost” – Super-random for Barrett to do an Ella Henderson song. This could be a disaster, but we’ll give him more credit than anyone else for at least trying something unexpected.

Emily Ann Roberts, “9 to 5” – Given that Dolly Parton is the mentor this week, isn’t this a little much? More than that, is there any way to make this song sound like anything other than karaoke?

Jeffery Austin, “Believe” – Love Jeffery, but at first glance don’t love this as a song to generate votes. It sounds like he’s doing the slow version, and that means another ballad from a guy who’s done a ton of them. Also, we’d prefer him doing something a little more current than Cher.

Braiden Sunshine, “Amazing Grace” – Another ugh. The song’s been done a lot on this show, it feels like an obvious positioning to get religious votes, and Braiden hasn’t shown himself to really even be this sort of artist.

Madi Davis, “Big Girls Don’t Cry” – You want to do something at this point to blow people away, and we’re not sure an arrangement of a Four Seasons song is that. This is what we’re probably bummed out by the most in looking at this list. Other than maybe Jordan hitting some big notes or Barrett doing a shockingly good rearrangement, there’s no potential here for us to be surprised. It seems like most artists are more okay with getting singles or doubles than hitting a home run.
