‘Person of Interest’ season 5 and the great premiere date mystery

POIWhat in the world is going on with CBS and the fifth season of “Person of Interest“? This is something that, rather understandably, many fans of the show are interested in knowing.

Let’s start with what we know: The network announced their midseason schedule a little bit earlier today, and it was an interesting surprise to many out there that the series was not on it. This is a show that was already pushed back from the fall schedule, and may be entering its final season. With the way things are constructed at present with few new midseason dramas entering the schedule (other than “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders”), it is hard to see where the show would come in even as a pitch-hitter for the network.

So what is our present theory on what is going on here? It could be as simple as this: Both “Under the Dome” and “Extant” are over, and with that, maybe this could be a solid addition to the lineup this coming summer. CBS only really has “Zoo” right now as an established scripted series, and we feel like its deal with Netflix, who added the show quickly after the first season ended, was one of the big reasons why we’re getting more of it. Putting “Person of Interest” there would give them something reliable, and who knows? Maybe the show could benefit from lesser competition; it wasn’t that long ago when it was one of the most-watched shows on the air. The main things working against it seemingly for the network are lower demo ratings, the cost of filming in New York City, and it coming from an outside studio in Warner Bros. TV.

We will have more news on a potential premiere date as we hear about them. Stay tuned.
