Thanksgiving TV: How ‘The Blacklist,’ ‘Scorpion,’ ‘The Leftovers,’ more have us thankful

The Blacklist logo any seasonIt’s Thanksgiving time here at CarterMatt, and this is when we like to take a minute, reflect, and celebrate all we are grateful for in life. We’re very thankful to have a job writing about all things TV, to have a readership, and to simply be able to enjoy some of the traditions that come along with this time of year like turkey, parades, and generous portions of pumpkin pie.

So what about TV? What shows are making us feel particularly great right now? Over the course of the next few days we’re going to be listing off some of the shows, networks, and news items right now that are having us feeling extremely thankful as we entering this holiday weekend. We’re kicking things off today with drama!

Castle – For resolving the whole separation storyline before Thursday rolled around. Sure, they’re not together in public yet, but something is better than nothing.

The Leftovers – For someone figuring out how to make a second season that is leaps and bounds ahead of the first, and may quality for the best drama on TV at the moment.

Jessica Jones – For giving us something great to watch on Netflix over the days off, and for creating this architecture where this show leads into “Luke Cage,” and eventually all of these shows are going to lead into “The Defenders.”

Netflix in general – For your existence over the weekend … and for bringing back “Gilmore Girls” and renewing “Longmire.” No other network / streaming provider is catering towards its readers better.

The Blacklist – For proving that a show with procedural elements can still mix it up. Maybe not everyone loved Liz on the run, but we found it very engaging at times.

Scorpion – For giving us a meaningful storyl in in Megan, even if the ending got us completely choked up.

The Flash – For giving us a villain so terrifying in Zoom that helps us to forget that his name is, comic book legacy aside, fairly cheesy.

The Walking Dead – For at least giving us answers on Glenn before the midseason finale … but we’re really being nice if we’re thanking them after waiting almost a month.

Chicago PD – For not messing around the Lindsay / Halstead relationship anymore.

Empire – For giving us Vivica A. Fox as a guest star in this current batch of episodes. We’re not sure we get behind all of the show’s celeb-hyping this season, but this one is a standout.
