‘Arrow’ season 4 spoilers: More scoop on Felicity’s father!

While to date “Arrow” has been fairly tight-lipped on the subject of Felicity Smoak’s father, we do come bearing what should be welcome information on the subject: We are going to be meeting him at some point more than likely in the second half of the season … or at least learning a whole lot more about him.

The thing that we find to be the biggest relief right now is that the show, rather than doing the cheesy / conventional thing, is actually letting there be some distance between whoever he is and the criminal organization at the center of the season. We knew already that he was not Damien Darhk, but executive producer Wendy Mericle makes it clear to Entertainment Weekly that he is not really related to the HIVE storyline at all:

“We are actually figuring out Felicity’s father as we speak. It’s not going to be tied to H.I.V.E. It’s going to be something that is more personal, emotional, speaks directly to her story, and a big bombshell that’s going to be coming out — a big reveal between her and Oliver later in the story — and the story is going to really speak to that.”

We feel like making this story more human and giving Emily Bett Rickards ample opportunity to shine really is the right way to go about delivering this story no matter how you slice it. We already have so much of the crazy / supernatural stuff going on with The Flash and Darhk’s powers, and to us the original Team Arrow is the true source of humanity and reality on this show.
