‘How I Met Your Mother’ creators teaming up with CBS on another comedy project

For those who enjoyed the style and humor of “How I Met Your Mother,” it looks like Carter Bays and Craig Thomas may be getting back in the network comedy game once more following their attempt at “How I Met Your Dad.”

According to a new report coming in from Deadline, the prolific showrunners are working with CBS once more on a series entitled “New York Mythological,” which will revolve around a woman from the midwest moving to New York and discovering the city’s “magic.” we’re not sure yet how different this will be from the original, or what meaning we are meant to ascribe to magic. Still, the two (who produce through Sony Pictures TV) have a shot at making it on the schedule in the fall.

Now, we’ll admit that we have seen a wide array of internet reaction to the news of this potential show, and noticed a trend: Most people are saying things along the lines of “I will never watch a show from these two ever again.” Do we think that they blew the “How I Met Your Mother” finale? Definitely. It undid seasons’ worth of work and the only series finale in recent mystery we’ve disliked more was “Dexter.”

Yet, with that said there were also seasons of great, entertaining television before that, and while we’d say that the ending tarnishes some of the legacy of the show, we still have so many fond memories of humor and heart from “How I Met Your Mother.” If we get this sort of charm in Bays and Thomas’ new show, we’ll still watch to enjoy the journey. Sometimes that should matter to go along with the ending.
