‘The Voice’ UK will leave BBC after season 5

VoiceWho imagined that a singing competition would inspire such a bidding war?

After being a part of controversy over the summer when it comes to public funding and the larger scope of the BBC, it has been confirmed now that the British version of “The Voice” is going to come to a close after the upcoming fifth season, which will premiere on the network early next year. After this, the franchise will continue on another broadcaster.

In a statement, acting BBC TV head Mark Linsey stated that much of the reason for losing the show was due to financials:

“The BBC is incredibly proud of The Voice, [but at the same time] we always said we wouldn’t get into a bidding war or pay inflated prices to keep the show, and it’s testament to how the BBC has built the programme up – and established it into a mainstay of the Saturday night schedule – that another broadcaster has poached it.”

Who is the other broadcaster? There are not many other candidates out there, but ITV is a strong contender given that they already air “The X Factor” and “Britain’s Got Talent.” The irony here is that those shows could probably benefit from “The Voice” ending, since it means that there would be a larger talent pool available to the two of them. With the population of Britain, our concern is that sooner or later, there will be a limited number of talented people to sign up.
