‘American Horror Story: Hotel’ episode 4 ratings: Did ‘Devil’s Night’ continue the decline

AHSThere is quite a bit of bleeding going on these days when it comes to “American Horror Story.” There is the bleeding that is being caused by Lady Gaga and her character of the Countess, and then there is also the bleeding that is happening in regards to the show’s numbers.

We mentioned briefly in our show podcast on Thursday night that there is yet another decline for episode 4 entitled “Devil’s Night,” and here is specifically what you are looking at. The installment scored in total a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is a small drop from the 1.7 it scored for the episode before. This is the smallest percentage decline we’ve seen the show make so far this year, but the reality remains that the ratings trajectory this season is worse off than in some other years.

So what is ultimately to blame here? The biggest issue has to be the overall quality of the show, given that this is not a roadblock that we saw “American Horror Story” run into as much in other seasons. If you are doing a great job making the show and getting viewers hooked, fewer ones of them are going to want to stop watching, at least via live measures.

One other reason is simply a matter of viewer fatigue. After so many seasons of enjoying this show, maybe the formula is becoming a little too predictable for some people. We certainly would not be too surprised if there was a thirst for some out there to get a fresh voice and perspective on things once more after so much time waiting.

Regardless of the reason, the numbers are down, and we will just have to wait and see if a recovery happens.
