Ratings: ‘Wicked City’ premiere tanks; ‘iZombie,’ ‘Chicago Fire’ rise; ‘Best Time Ever’ falls

The ratings are in for Tuesday night’s TV lineup, and the epic first game of the World Series produced some enormous numbers for Fox. While tentative, Game 1 in primetime posted a 4.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Remember, this game extended far beyond the primetime hours.

Winners – Finally, there’s some good news with “The Muppets” … even if it is only a scant improvement. The ABC show matched “Fresh Off the Boat” with a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. It was actually “iZombie” (0.6) that posted the biggest week-to-week increase of the night, though there should be a little concern that it will adjust down in the final numbers. “Chicago Fire” (1.9) to us had the most impressive gain of the night versus the week before, and you can thank “The Voice” (2.5) in part for it.

Losers – Did anyone think that “Wicked City” (0.9) would be a hit? What we’re really learning here is that much like “Gossip Girl” never really got the ratings to match some of its hype, the same goes for new shows starring many of its former stars. This show joins “Blood & Oil” as one that is going to head right out the door at the very least when the run of episodes is over.

Among the shows impacted the most by the World Series last night were “NCIS” (2.0) and “Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris” (1.1), which both showed declines in the 8:00 p.m. family hour. Both have fared better, and would do so without the game around.
