MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 5, episode 8 video: Tamara and Jenna’s new twist on prom

Admittedly, there is something a little odd watching stories about senior prom in October, but that is what both “Awkward” and “Faking It” on MTV are giving us right now. We feel like part of the reason for this timing-wise is that we don’t think the original expectation was for these shows to be on so late in the year. We feel like they would have been more suitable to air during the spring, right around the time that people were actually attending prom.

What we are getting from Jenna and Tamra, at least right now, is that the two are getting ready to bail on prom and everything that goes along with it. That is why, in the sneak peek below, you can see the two considering the idea of creating a list of ways to ensure that nobody asks either one of them to be their date. Couldn’t they just fake an illness if they really don’t want to go, or  just decline any invites?

Really what we have to ask is this: Is this a smart move for them? Both yes and no. It’s smart in that they want to make sure that they don’t go to something that they are not in the mood for, but what happens in the event that someone asks them who actually wants to go to prom with them (or that they would actually want to go with)? What if it’s Matty? While Jenna may have decided to let him go at the end of this past episode, there’s no guarantee that she is going to stand firm behind this sentiment forever.
