‘The X-Files’ revival almost had seven episodes; one scrapped at last minute

X Files -Come January 24, Fox is going to be airing the first of six episodes of “The X-Files.” The show is back on the air! You’ve waited for a long time to see what the story for these episodes is going to be, and now the time of waiting is over.

There were a variety of different wrinkles to the series that were revealed over the weekend at New York Comic-Con, including that the first and sixth episodes will be linked, will the rest will stand on their own. Showrunner Chris Carter also happened to reveal that at one point, there was meant to be a seventh episode written by new writers, people who he wanted to give a chance to. Speaking per TVLine, he had the following to say when it was revealed that scheduling issues were a big part of the reason why this did not happen:

“It was almost about to happen … We were planning for it. The script was written. I even called people to find out if they were available to direct, and it just didn’t happen.”

Is there still a chance that the show gets the light of day in the future? Sure, in the event that Fox orders more episodes beyond the initial six for some point doing the road. We’re not sure that this is ever going to happen, but we’re going to hold out hope. We figure that if the ratings are enormous enough, Fox will figure out a way to get everyone on the same page.
