‘Supernatural’ season 11 premiere reaction: Meet Amara the evil baby

Supernatural -

Throughout most of the season 11 premiere of “Supernatural,” we watched with crazy excitement over the fact that we were finally getting a chance to dive back into a show that we consider to be very much a treasured part of our TV lives. It’s flawed, but sometimes we are able to look past that and just enjoy something that continues to entertain us … while also occasionally freaking us out.

Crowley’s sexual exploits are probably the one thing that startled us the most about this episode, which for the most part is something that we would label as the beginning of a two-part event. Over the course of the hour we learned a few important things, including that the Darkness is a woman with the Mark of Cain, and that we have the arrival of a super-evil baby named Amara with a particularly nefarious mark of her own. All of this is certainly strange, but for the most part we still don’t entirely know just what the Darkness wants or what the endgame here is.

What we do know is that the Darkness seems to be having a very “Walking Dead” sort of impact on some of the people in this world, and that Sam is apparently now infected. So what does he do with this information? He doesn’t tell Dean! Ugh. This is what is frustrating about this show. After this many years, don’t you think that the brothers would actually be open with each other about their secrets? Don’t they ever learn?

Here’s the good news: Warnings are coming from the Cage, which is great for those who want to see an appearance from Lucifer at some point in the near future. We get the sense that there are some old-school elements coming this season, and we’ll just have to wait and see what happens there.
