‘American Horror Story: Hotel’ spoilers: Lady Gaga on the Countess’ journey, addiction theme

Gaga -The premiere of “American Horror Story: Hotel” on FX is mere hours away, and there are a pretty wide array of stories to look forward to from many characters. You have Wes Bentley as a detective, Evan Peters as a particularly-deadly man, and even Max Greenfield as some guy hiding under beds.

Still, Lady Gaga is the person getting the majority of the attention, and understandably so. The new season is marketed around her character of the Countess Elizabeth, a woman who suffers from a blood virus that causes her to crazy blood on a constant basis. This is tied into one of the show’s larger themes for this season, and that is addiction. Many people on this season are suffering from something, and as a result of that, are using some questionable means in order to ensure their survival. In speaking further on the subject to The Hollywood Reporter, Gaga passed along the following message:

“There is a journey for my character, in particular, through hemophilia and her need to drink blood to survive and to stay young, and that’s entwined with other stories about a need for sex, a need for freedom, a need for drugs, a need for attention, a need to survive … What’s interesting about this season is that you see the dichotomy of the two worlds: You have the hotel world, which feels decidedly like the Ryan Murphy world, and then you have the outside world. It’s addiction as the public sees it versus how it really is and how that all plays into each other.”

Clearly, executive producer Ryan Murphy is happy enough with this season that he has already asked Gaga back for season 6, though there is no word just yet on whether or not she will do. She does seem to be enjoying her part on the show this season, so only time will tell.
