‘Gotham’ season 2, episode 3 preview: All about Jerome

Gotham -Moving into Monday night’s new episode of “Gotham,” we don’t know how you are able to say that Jerome is anything other than a huge part of the show’s present universe. Even though he was but a blip on the radar during season 1, he is now in many ways the face of the Maniax organization, a band of villains set up by Theo Galavan to wreck havoc in Gotham. We still do not know his precise endgame with this group, but here is the problem with making Jerome the face of the brand: How often can you trust him to get the job done? He’s unpredictable; that’s part of his charm, and in some ways both an asset and a liability.

Most of the footage in the new promo you’ve seen in other places, but we have not touched on this particular question as much as we would have liked: Are we burning out with the Jerome story? Are we doing too much, too quickly with a kid who could someday become the Joker?

Think about it this way: We’re barely at the point now with Edward Nygma where he is starting to understand his true capability. Selina Kyle is the equivalent of Oswald Cobblepot’s house pet. Are we to believe that Jerome is going to be able to contain this reign of terror for decades until Bruce Wayne becomes Batman? That is a little hard to believe.

This is why leading into Monday’s episode, we have two theories in particular when it comes to Jerome:

1. He doesn’t make it through “The Last Laugh” or some other early episode.

2. He gets arrested or simply goes away for a long stretch of time. Cameron Monaghan cannot do this show and “Shameless” at the same time, after all. Maybe he will return later this season if he departs soon.
