‘Saturday Night Live’: Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, Colin Jost, Sasheer Zamata promoted

SNL -While promotions on “Saturday Night Live” are not always big news during the offseason, they are announced during the season premiere in a way that really doesn’t do them justice. These are people who probably dreamed for a long time about making it on the show, so why are you giving them just a few seconds to bask in their glory? Couldn’t you do so much more than that for them?

Anyhow, the news that was confirmed in the episode was that the entirety of the cast who joined “SNL,” at least as featured players, prior to the start of season 40 was officially promoted to one of the main players. This meant great news for Beck Bennett, Kyle Mooney, Colin Jost, and Sasheer Zamata. They all now have a little more stability, and Lorne Michaels is also committing to having these people seemingly stick around for years to come with Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, and others.

So what about Leslie Jones? We feel like one of the big reasons for her not getting the extra bump is that she was really not a sketch player outside of “Weekend Update” until season 40. We feel like both her, Michael Che, and Pete Davidson are all going to have their moments next year provided that they all stick around until that point. We have a hard time thinking they wouldn’t, given some of the ways the show already is relying on them.

Do we now have a pretty big cast for “SNL”? Definitely so, but it still doesn’t feel as insane as it did in season 39, where you brought in a whole army of white male featured players and we could not tell any of them apart.
