Ratings: ‘Castle’ season 8, ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ premiere at lows; ‘Blindspot’ strong

We’re here with our first official ratings report for Monday night’s lineup, and for the most part, we feel like most networks cannot be too happy with the results.

The big winner, at least for now, has to be NBC. “The Voice” premiered to a strong 3.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is still down from the 3.9 the show drew for its premiere episode last year. Still, it’s hard to imagine anyone being upset about this. The big win here goes to “Blindspot,” which started with an impressive 3.1 that we credit mostly to the marketing campaign that featured Jaimie Alexander and all of her tattoos pretty much everywhere. We’re still not sold on the show remaining a smash hit a la “Empire.” NBC did their job marketing the show, but it’s to be seen if it can really hold onto any of these viewers moving forward.

Now, let’s talk about all of the losers. Fox had a particularly rough night, with “Gotham” (1.6) getting less than half the show’s premiere audience from last year and “Minority Report” (1.1) turning out to be an almost-instant flop. We’re not too shocked by that unfortunately; it has been years since the Tom Cruise movie, which was not necessarily a blockbuster to begin with.

For CBS, they can at least rejoice that “The Big Bang Theory” (4.5) had a nice start that should make the network feel better after some surprisingly low ratings in the spring. New comedy “Life in Pieces” had a decent 2.7, and “Scorpion” (2.2) was even with the season 2 finale. “NCIS: Los Angeles,” meanwhile, plummeted to a series low rating of 1.2. Both it and “Castle” (1.2) seemed to both suffer by airing against “Blindspot” this week.

We’ll have more on these ratings soon enough; for now, you can probably pencil in “Blindspot” for a full season, and we’d be shocked if “Minority Report” goes beyond its initial 13.
