‘The Simpsons’ spoilers: Show boss teases Homer – Marge conflict in premiere

Sometimes, it really does not take much to get the internet all riled up and upset. We saw that almost perfectly when the news break earlier this year that Homer and Marge Simpson were going to be having marital problems on “The Simpsons” coming up the upcoming season premiere. This led to the internet thinking that the two were getting a divorce and splitting up for good … which would probably never happen because it is just too depressing. These two have been together for 26 seasons so far. Clearly, something is working.

So what is the nature of their conflict? Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Al Jean does his part to explain that part of the problems stem just from Marge getting tired of some of the same-old shtick we’ve seen from her husband over the years:

“It’s different than any that we’ve done, but I don’t want to describe it. People go, ‘Well, why can’t you describe it?’ When you see the episode, you’ll know why it’s different, but I can’t say until you see it. But they’re not permanently divorced.”

Jean also comments in the interview on the future of the series, saying first and foremost that the show is renewed for a 28th season and the cast’s contracts all expire at the end of season 30. Ultimately, he wouldn’t be surprised one way or another if it ends at season 28, or continues onward. We feel like this point getting to season 30 makes some sense, given that it is such a huge milestone and if you are going to drop the curtain, that seems like the best possible time to do it. There wouldn’t be another huge anniversary after that until season 40.
