‘The Bastard Executioner’ episode 3 preview: What lies ahead for Lee Jones, cast?

TBX -Tonight, FX lifted the veil on what is by far one of the most ambitious series that they have created to this point: “The Bastard Executioner.” It showed the tale of Wilkin Brattle (Lee Jones), a man who takes on the position of executioner as an act to ensure that he can right a great wrong.

So what will these duties entail? Well, do we really need to explain that to you? We saw Wilkin be appointed his new job near the end of the two-hour premiere, and based on the synopsis for the next episode entitled “Effigy / Delw,” he will be asked to do some sort of executing sooner rather than later:

“When an unlikely suspect is charged with treason, Wilkin must carry out his duties as the new executioner.”

This is hardly the most descriptive teaser that we have ever seen, but if you are reading this and are new to FX, you better get used to it. This is a network that has a tendency to not give much away in advance, and that is even more true with a Kurt Sutter project. Sutter co-wrote this episode alongside Charles Murray and Nichole Beattie, while Paris Barclay is directing his third straight installment. For those wondering, he will not be helming every episode, but we are happy to have him around for as long as possible.

While we have no idea where this series is going to go, we’re invested already two episodes in. This is going to be a hard journey for Wilkin, but hopefully the result is worth it.

We’re going to have more preview news on “The Bastard Executioner” soon enough, but for now head over here for some more coverage of the premiere. Also, you can sign up here in the event you want some other TV updates on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: FX.)
