‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 17 spoilers: First details on two-hour premiere

Law & Order: SVU logoThe last time that you saw Dallas Roberts on “Law & Order: SVU,” it was when the show was having its enormous crossover episode with “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago PD.” Eventually the unit was able to capture him, but what happens when another body is found that seems to fit his M.O.? This is going to be one of many fascinating stories that takes place when the NBC show officially premieres on September 23 with two separate episodes: “Devil’s Dissections” and “Criminal Pathology.”

While these episodes are technically two separate ones in terms of the show’s overall episode count, they are being billed as a part of a two-hour event. Therefore, the synopsis that we have below is for the two of them together.

“The SVU is called to a familiar crime scene – the beach where serial killer Gregory Yates (guest star Dallas Roberts) buried his many victims. When another body washes ashore, Detective Rollins (Kelli Giddish) tries to coax him into confessing, but the surprising information he provides sends shockwaves through the police department. As the case goes to court, Barba (Raúl Esparza) faces off against two hotshot defense attorneys in a trial that leads to blackmail, an incriminating confession, a new victim and a fugitive suspect.”

Hopefully by the time we make it to the end of the premiere, some burning questions will be answered, and we’re also going to have some events that play out that will be reminiscent of the Robert Durst murders. This is at least via some of the promos and various material that we’ve seen for the show so far.
