‘Big Brother 17’ review: Zingbot acknowledges Austin’s girlfriend and other matters

AustinTonight, we had the long-awaited arrival of the Zingbot to “Big Brother 17,” and in turn you had what had was one of the more interesting moments of the season. We have absolutely no problem with the show bringing up Austin’s girlfriend / ex-girlfriend (he is calling her the latter), since this is a part of his narrative and he was telling media outlets preseason that he was not open for a showmance.

However, why bring it up completely out of nowhere? There’s really not a whole lot of context for this, and it feels like something that should have really been introduced to the TV-viewing audience some time ago for those who didn’t know. The majority of the zings tonight were ultimately not the best and they felt by the numbers. Really, the worst one was basically Meg getting a copy-and-paste from the zing that Donny had last year.

Vanessa of course won the Veto (as so many of you already knew), and then the show tried to create some sort of narrative to explain why Vanessa didn’t use the Veto. Most of the episode, Zingbot aside, was more or less the show filling time. It’s a boring week! Other than some James hijinks here and there, there hasn’t really been that much in the way of fun stuff going on in the house. Vanessa felt like her “hands are tied,” and that’s why she decided not to use it.

Hopefully, Thursday night’s show with the returning jury member will create for some more entertaining. Episode grade: B
