‘Game of Thrones’ season 6: George R.R. Martin not concerned with show ending before books

Just in case who were wondering at all if George R.R. Martin would be perturbed with “Game of Thrones” ending before A Song of Ice and Fire, the simple answer is that he seems to be okay with it. Maybe this is a nice way to reassure some fans to feel the same? We’ve certainly heard from some purists out there that they are used to getting the story from the book first, and they’d like it to remain that way. That’s just not going to happen with the show. Actors have busy schedules, and with many young people getting older you really cannot stop the story now that it is going.

Martin, who is in the thick of writing The Winds of Winter, made a rare convention appearance (at least in 2015) at the Sasquan science-fiction convention in Spokane. Per Winter Is Coming, he shared the following about the timing of the books versus the show:

“The show is moving forward like a locomotive, or sometimes a jet locomotive … They’re writing 60-page scripts, I’m writing 1,500-page novels. So who the hell knows? There was a period where I was worried about that. Then I said, to hell with that. Worrying about it isn’t going to change it one way or another. I still sit down at the typewriter, and I have to write the next scene and the next sentence … I’m just going to tell my story, and they’re telling their story and adapting my books, and we shall see.”

The sixth season of “Game of Thrones” will more than likely premiere in late March / April, and Martin still has not confirmed a release date for his next book … and really has no intention to. He’s fine with keeping things as-is for at least the immediate future.
